Steps
to Sign Up
The
following outlines how to setup your free email
account at PerfectlyPrivate
Step
1: Ensure System Requirements
This
service utilizes cutting-edge java technology.
For optimal performance we recommend using the
most recent browser version. System requirements
are as follows:
Netscape Communicator™
Microsoft Internet Explorer™ (IE)
Windows95™, Windows98™ or WindowsNT™
IE users must have the Microsoft Java Virtual
Machine installed in order for this service
to work. Installing IE version 5.0 will automatically
install the Microsoft Java VM.
This
service currently will not work with WebTV or
Macintosh systems due to lack of Java support.
NOTE:
For further information on how to Enable Java
or Javascript in your browser, click here.
Step 2: Read the Terms of Service Agreement
All PerfectlyPrivate users are asked
to read and accept the Terms
of Service Agreement before creating their
email address. The agreement allows PerfectlyPrivate
to protect users of both our service and other
Internet services from unwanted or unauthorized
activities on the Internet.
If you agree to the Terms of Service Agreement,
click the "Sign up" link on the front
page of our site.
Step 3: Complete application form
After
reading and accepting the
Terms of Service Agreement, continue on
to the sign up form. Here you will be asked
to select an email address for your account
and provide some information about yourself.
Once you have completed this form, click continue.
Step 4: Verify "Pass Code"
We
use a "Pass Code" verification system
to ensure you are a real person and to cut down
on abuse of our system. When you fill out the
sign up form, we issue a pass code to the non-PerfectlyPrivate
email address you provide. This pass code is
keyed to the information you enter (specifically
the non-PerfectlyPrivate email address) and
is automatically sent to you for verification.
When prompted, enter this pass code to continue
in the sign up process.
Step 5: Create secure key
After
entering your pass code, our system will send
you to Hush Communications where you will generate
your secure key for use in email encryption.
When
you are sent to Hush Communications, you will
see a Java Applet load which will take you through
the secure key generation. Once the java applet
has loaded, you will be asked to move your mouse
pointer within the box that appears on your
screen. The random movement of the pointer within
the box generates random numbers for your security
key. Continue to move your mouse around the
box until the bars along the bottom change color.
This is the only time you will create your security
key.
Step 6: Select password phrase
Once
your have used your mouse to create your secure
key, you will be prompted to select a password
or password phrase which will be required when
logging in to check your email. Unlike other
systems, we allow you to use more than just
a single "word" as your password.
This provides more security for your account.
DO NOT FORGET THIS PASSWORD PHRASE !!! WE CANNOT
RETRIEVE IT IF YOU FORGET.
After selecting your password and/or password
phrase, you will be asked to re-enter it to
ensure you have typed it correctly. Again, write
it down so you do not forget it. Remember, we
have no way to lookup lost password phrases
if lost or forgotten. In such cases, the only
option you have is to close your account and
select a new email address. Email sent to the
previous account will be lost.
Once
you verify that you have your password phrase
entered correctly, your account will be activated
and you will be directed to the main login page.
NOTE:
If at any point during the account creation
process your browser crashes and/or you lose
your connection to the internet, you can return
to the sign up page and activate your account
using the same non-PerfectlyPrivate email address
and passcode.
